Since the founding of our country, our ancestors, with innovation and inventions, passed on greater prosperity to each generation that followed – fostered in a nation and work environment that encouraged opportunity with the goal of personal responsibility and success that would be celebrated as one provided for their family. For the past few years however, the private sector has declined from too much government intrusion, government growth, and a business killing environment created by those who do not understand nor encourage small business success, particularly in rural communities. People are more dependent on the government, not realizing their own full potential nor the opportunities that workers in our nation have so generously been blessed with in the past. When the government gets over-involved, the people suffer. There is no better example than the current discussions underway to fine farmers for the dust they kick up when working their land.
For the first time in American history, we are passing on a weaker, less prosperous country to our children, and we must immediately tighten the reins on government to counteract this. Government should be leaner, government should be more efficient, and business-friendly practices must be implemented to encourage a vibrant private sector. We must encourage, through tax credits and other incentives, new business opportunities to move into our district and state, bringing jobs and enhancing the skill set of our workers to generate higher-paying jobs. Through my years of experience in working with businesses and understanding what is currently restricting our economic development, I will introduce legislation to draw out of state businesses to Southeastern Oklahoma to base a successful business, and therefore helping our communities to thrive.
